An awesome and much-needed book on a rather common problem
An awesome and much-needed book on a rather common problem, prescription drug abuse. The book is quite concise which is good because I don’t think the majority of drug abusers are going to read a tome anyways. Interestingly, the author himself acknowledges that “people who are addicted to prescription drugs are not usually in that clear of a headspace to be thinking so critically about their addictive behavior.” So true and I agree on that!
First off, it is important to understand what prescription drug abuse is. According to the author, “Prescription drug abuse is using a prescribed medication improperly and not using it based on the prescription of the physician.”
You know, there is a reason why the law requires certain kinds of drugs to be sold only with a doctor’s prescription. These drugs, if used in an unabated and rampant manner, could harm you in more ways than you think.
In this book the author discusses what prescription drug abuse is, why you should not be abusing them, the sign and symptoms of prescription drug addiction, names of the most commonly abused prescription drugs, reasons behind prescription drug abuse, the short term and long term side effects of abusing certain kinds of prescription drugs, how to get rid of prescription drug addiction (using a doctor’s help/doing it on your own), a list of ‘happy foods’, how to prevent prescription drug abuse among teenagers and kids, and more. All in all a very useful and must-have guide. Given the length of the book, it is indeed an amazing feat on the part of the author to be able to condense so much of useful information into such a tiny book.
The bad: I found Chapter 6 to be a bit repetitive. Also, the book does not seem to have been properly proofread. I can find spelling mistakes sporadically. Sometimes the same word is spelled alternately in British and American spellings (Counselling/ Counseling). While the spelling mistakes maybe negligible, it is still a good idea to hire a meticulous editor and fix them.
