Mary was the only surviving member of her family; her late father was actively involved in the civil war but when President Grant demanded that she be brought to Washington, the idea didn’t appeal to her. More popularly known by her initial M, Mary was independent minded and courageous. She is always willing to do what she thinks is right, regardless of the odds against her.
Argent and Merritt had thought it was going to be quite easy bringing a lady to the capital city, on the orders of the president, but little did they know it was going to be such a herculean task—leaving in its wake attempted murder, robbery and other troubles they didn’t envisage for.
Other characters in the book include Captain Elliott, Emma, Miss. Carrie, Randy, Mr. Hughes, Althea and Emmet among others.
The plot of this book was set in America before contemporary times and offered some sneak peek into what the society used to be like. One April after The War is an interesting book readers would enjoy.
