The Crossover is the kind of book that has something for everyone. It is the kind of book that I look forward to reading every week but, unfortunately, comes around only occasionally. It has a blend of everything ranging from supernatural occurrences, family drama and scientific phenomena as well. It briefly reminded me of the famous Spielberg movie Poltergeist, which I had watched as a toddler (well, of course, I have watched it many times since then).
The story follows the emotional journey of the Adamson family when they encounter a mysterious portal leading to another dimension near North California. The family goes through a series of troubles and their journey consists of grief, love, loss, faith and a quest for understanding alternative universes. There is also an element of cutting-edge physics in it to appease those who find it harder to relate to the supernatural and parallel universes without some sort of plausible scientist explanation behind it.
I could relate and connect with almost all the characters in the book, but particular mention must be made of the emotionally fragile mother, Alice Adamson, who gets brainwashed by a shaman in New Orleans. I met actual characters like Alice and Roboto Broussard the shaman, so it felt very real to me. All in all, I cannot recommend this book enough. I mean, what is there not to like in a book that is a combination of science, spirituality and human emotions?
